Bed bugs are usually found in places where people sleep, sit, or stay still for long periods. They hide in small, dark, and warm spaces close to their food source where their food source is humans. Common hiding spots include:
In the bedroom:
-
Mattress seams and folds
-
Box springs
-
Bed frames and headboards
-
Under the mattresses and beddings
-
In cracks and joints of the bed
Around the bed:
-
Behind the headboard (especially if it is attached to the wall)
-
In bedside tables, cracks, and drawers
-
Behind wall hangings, picture frames, or posters
-
In curtain folds (This is a common occurence in Ugandan Homes)
Other common places:
-
Sofas and upholstered furniture (This is also common in Ugandan Homes according to our experience)
-
Luggage and travel bags
-
Clothing piles or cluttered areas
-
Cracks in walls or floors (This is very common in schools in Uganda, that is with in the dormitories)
-
Under carpets and rugs
Bed bugs are excellent at hiding and can stay concealed for long periods, which is why early detection is important.
